The food here is really not good at all. And the experience was strange. I had a quesadilla, which, instead of having shredded cheese inside, was simply smothered in queso on the top of the tortilla. The chicken and veggies were meh. My boyfriend had tacos and the beef was horrible and grizzly. The sides (beans, rice, guac) were mediocre at best. It's not quite as bad as Sam's (ie neither of us got sick), but it's worse than just about everything else (El Burrito etc). Our waiter could tell I wasn't too pleased and wouldn't let me tell him it was "fine." Ultimately I told him I'd never had a quesadilla that just had queso poured on it instead of shredded cheese. He had the nerve to tell me there WAS shredded cheese, I just didn't see it. I gave up but he continued to "tease" me - I was obviously uncomfortable and to some people that's "fun." You couldn't pay me to go back.

Great Pepsi! The food was just like every other West Michigan Mexican food. At least it's not Prueblos in Spring Lake, that place is worse it taste like tomato paste on everything.

From the outside (located in a small strip mall) you'd never know the inside is as nicely renovated as it is. This used to be an ice cream and sub shop, and now the interior is typically Mexican, colorful and vibrant. The beer offerings are somewhat limited but adequate. Liquor is also available. Four of us each had something different, each meal excellent, and our server was attentive and friendly. On our way out the door I overheard two others leaving at the same time, raving about the atmosphere and food as well. This is a restaurant that will become one of my regulars.

KEEP DRIVING. Nothing like an alcohol-less margarita, and rude service to start your lunch! I asked the waiter how big the medium size margarita was and he looked at me and said curtly, "I have no idea." Okay... I then laughed and said, "Gee, I'm sorry I asked." He responded by getting my margarita, bringing it back to our table, THEN asking me for my i.d. as he held my drink in his hand. (I am 45 years old and look it.) LAME. The guacamole was flavorless. The steak in my al pastor tacos was overcooked and rubbery. Blah food, bad service, and no booze in my drink? Next time we'll drive by.

Best and most authentic Mexican food around. The artistry adorning tables and chairs not just walls all appear hand crafted, quite unique. The Chile Relleno was my favorite. Burrito with beef tips was delicious. The salsa that comes with warm chips as soon as you are seated is addictive. We even happened to be there when a small band was playing. A new favorite.

The food was ok. The atmosphere is like most casual sit down Mexican restaurants, lots of colorful pictures of pueblo life, aztec sun discs etc. The prices are too high. The waiters are not very friendly. Not a bad place, but not worth 15 dollars a plate.

Been here a couple of times. It is definitely the best place in GH for Mexican food overall. Some places have burritos, but it would be tough to screw those up. Plus, there's a full bar here and there's nothing better than a pitcher full of margaritas!

Food was fantastic really authentic. The cheese dip appetizer was great and their guacamole was great along with their pico da Gialo. Highly recommend eating there if you like authentic Mexican food. The had really great service very friendly. Plus their chips and salsa is very good I would recommend the La Grande Quesadilas.

I've been searching for a good Mexican restaurant since moving to Western Michigan. I finally hit the jackpot with Don Luis Bar & Grill. With three in our party we each ordered our favorite entrée, Hawaiian Fajitas, Carnitas Mexicanas and Chile Rellenos. The wait staff was attentive and very friendly including the assistant manager who checked on us twice. We sampled each other's plate and all three of us agreed that we have found an outstanding Mexican Restaurant.

Food was outstanding, had the Tacos el Pastor first time I have had those since I was in Mexico City where grilled pineapple was used, definite plus! One of my sons had a chicken and cheese quesadilla, said it was best ever. My other son had enchiladas, one chicken, one cheese, his clean plate said all I needed to hear about his opinion. Service was very good, timely but not annoying. The decor I have to say is awesome, love the carved wood caricatures in the chairs and booths, very colorful and festive. Will def be back on my next vacation here. Not even sure if the other reviewers ate at the same restaurant I did but I highly recommend.

If you want a large selection of authentic mexican dishes, then you've come to the right place. Don Luis was by far the best mexican cuisine that my wife and I have had in quite a long time. The plates are good sized (what you see on the menu is what you get) and you may very well have leftovers to take with you. Service was good, nothing extraordinary. The beer selection was typical (Dos Equis, Corona, etc..) so don't expect a huge assortment of choices. I wouldn't hesitate for a second to return... in fact we ate there twice during our 3-day stay in Grand Haven.

We have eaten at Don Luis twice and both times the food was excellent. .Authentic Mexican Food. Portions were excellent and the women took the rest of theirs home and had it for lunch the next day. There are many options for Gluten Free to choose from. We certainly will be back soon. Order a Dos Equis Beer, you won't be sorry.

Excellent meals with large portions! Large menu selection for anyone's preference. Their salsa is the best by far. Great margaritas and they are 50% off on Wednesday's.

Good Americanized Mexican food; a little on the bland side but being from Texas I'm used to very spicy. Chips and salsa were tasty, but no refill on the chips. LARGE portions - I had the Enchiladas Supreme and it was huge, but served without rice or beans. Service was very good - right on the spot without being obtrusive. Food came out very, very quickly. No real downside, just nothing that made it stand out from 100 other places.

Great Mexican in Grand Haven! We've found most of the servers there to be quick and very friendly! Really like the salsa and margaritas too! It's a fun little spot and very busy at dinner time.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
